  • Overview



    The Sales Manager for Amerex Defense reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for all outside activities involving new sales lead generation, customer development and maintenance, customer quoting, product  pricing and margins. This position requires extensive customer selling activities, excellent attention to detail and a high level of personal organizational skills. The ability to work closely and effectively with all Defense department personnel (primarily inside sales / contracts administrator, project manager, engineering manager, and field service representative) is crucial to success. Highly succinct and timely feedback reporting to General Manager is expected.    







    Strong customer interfacing - must communicate well, primarily with both large and small military ground vehicle OEM’s, government / military procurement officials, as well as independent Amerex distributors.

    Prepare quotes and fire suppression system proposals in accordance with company policies and customer specifications while ensuring all compliance requirements are met.

    Es   Establish, maintain and justify travel, tradeshow and annual marketing budgets.

    Communicate closely with inside sales / contracts administrator and project manager to ensure product deliveries move through manufacturing as scheduled.

    Frequently interface with engineering manager (via weekly project meetings and other communications) at the beginning of any fire suppression system customer quotation.

    Be   Be an active participant in all relevant project meetings (held weekly) to discuss all new programs, contracts and sales opportunities.

     W  Work with inside sales / contracts administrator and General Manager to maintain customer price lists.    

    Perform other duties as assigned.




      S Stay in close coordination with inside sales / contracts administrator concerning all incoming orders and pricing.

    Pr    Prepare a detailed weekly sales activity report for the General Manager.

    Pr    Provide an annually updated sales plan and growth strategy for the General Manager.  

    Pl    Plan for, and communicate customer price increases.

    A    Assist inside sales / contracts admin. and project manager in the review of the 15-month rolling forecast for accuracy.

    Se   Set travel plans and customer visits with autonomy, to achieve annual sales goals.

    So   Some international travel required. 








    Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Fire Protection preferred (salary commensurate with experience).

    Strong interpersonal and customer communication skills.

    10 years’ minimum experience with direct selling, preferably in the fire suppression industry.  

    Experience with government contract language.

    Working knowledge of NFPA standards and the ability to discuss customer flow-down specifications fluently is a plus.

    Familiarity of gaseous clean agent explosion suppression systems is a plus.

    Basic technical understanding of pre-engineered mobile ground vehicle fire suppression systems highly desired.

    Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).

    Must be able to multi-task, prioritize and manage time efficiently.

    Must have very good verbal and written communication skills.

    Must be able to work independently with little to no supervision.

    Should have basic familiarity with DLA (Defense Logistics Agency) and GSA (General Services Administration).
