Develops, implements, and maintains procedures and programs to minimize environmental risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements by possessing technical environmental knowledge and performing the following duties.


  • Manages environmental project activities including operation and maintenance of air pollution control equipment, storm-water monitoring equipment, process water, feasibility studies, and other plans.
  • Assists in the development of a compliance strategy(s) to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Analyzes, develops, and implements activities to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all environmental efforts.
  • Assesses the environmental risk of activities and advises team members of environmental impact.
  • Able to calculate potential-to-emit calculations for air permit applications/modifications
  • Develops and implements sampling and monitoring plans, which may include installing, operating, and maintaining equipment.
  • Familiar with Method 9 visible emission observations.
  • Knowledge of storm water sampling protocol in accordance with EPA standards.
  • Knowledge of RCRA Hazardous Waste and DOT Hazardous Waste Manifest Rules.
  • Interprets data and observations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines and advises management accordingly.
  • Prepares reports such as environmental monitoring operation report and shipping reports for review by administrative personnel and submission to regulatory agency.
  • Able to calculate material composition calculations for EPCRA reporting.
  • Assist in the operation of an effective environmental management system.
  • Prepares technical documentation for management's use when dealing with regulatory agencies and other internal/external needs.
  • Maintains working knowledge of new technologies developed by the industry and government regulators.
  • Maintain Environmental Management System.
  • Familiar with Wastewater Treatment operations.
  • Must have experience formatting/developing/implementing/maintaining/updating plans, permits, and or standard operating procedures.

 Supervisory Responsibilities

Works with plant supervisors to direct hourly employees in completing environmentally related job duties properly.



  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training.  Prefer engineering degree.           
  • Read, analyze, and interpret, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of all levels of management, clients, customers, and the general public.  Must be able to provide accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to function under stressful situations and a multi-task environment.  Ability to prioritize work and meet project deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.  Must be able to observe and correctly wear all PPE requirements throughout the facility.  While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
